Frodo Baggins

View Profile

I was born on September 22, 2968, to Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck Baggins. I spent much of my youth at Brandy Hall in Buckland, the home of my mother's people. As a young Hobbit, I believe I was considered something of a rascal, particularly by Farmer Maggot from whom I stole mushrooms. (However, that's another story.)
In 2980, when I was still a child, my parents went out upon the Brandywine River, which resulted in them drowning in a dreadful boating accident. Needless to say, it was an extremely sorrowful and traumatic time in my life. Having no siblings, I was left alone in the crowded tunnels of Brandy Hall until my cousin, Bilbo Baggins adopted me nine years later and made me his heir.
Bilbo and I had a comfortable life at Bag End, which is a spacious Hobbit hole under the Hill in Hobbiton, in the Westfarthing. Life with Uncle Bilbo wasn't exactly of the usual sort in the Shire. The wizard, Gandalf the Grey visited Bag End occasionally, and Bilbo had once gone on an a great adventure, returning with wealth and knowledge of the world outside the Shire. I learned much from listening to him describe his encounters with Dwarves and Elves, often dreaming of adventures of my own someday. (Bilbo and I have something else in common, aside form the love of adventure. We share the same birthday, and Bilbo enjoyed throwing grand parties to celebrate.) In 3001, when Bilbo turned 111 and I came of age at 33, we threw a huge party of special magnificence. At this party, Bilbo announced his intention to leave the Shire and vanished, literally, much to the consternation of our guests. Where is not exactly known. As for me, I inherited Bag End and most of Bilbo's possessions, but I'm still waiting for my great adventure.
